Brown wires are permanently live, white wires are live when 'ignition' is on, black wires are earth.

1. Buy the civilian light switch. I got mine on eBay - new.
2. There's a plastic cover behind the steering wheel. Remove that and fit the new switch. The switch has three wires (blue, brown, red) to a connector. Leave this dangling for now.
3. The wiring for the civilian light switch is already present laying about behind the speedo panel. It has the corresponding connector and the same three colours of wire. I found it by removing the plastic switch panel that houses the hazard flasher switch.
4. Thread the connector through to appear above the steering column. (Be careful pulling it through so as not to damage wiring and other stuff behind the speedo panel. Route the cables to avoid pinching.)
5. Push the two halves of the connector together. The lights (side, tail and heads) are now operational.

6. Open up the panels around the military 6-way switch. Disconnect the two wires (brown & black) that go to the small power connectors next to the switch. These are just push fit and just pull off. The brown is live if you haven’t disconnected the battery.
7. The back of the switch is covered with a big rubber boot. No need to open that up.
8. The wires attached to the 6-way switch are connected to the vehicle wiring by a single connector. Unplug it. The entire 6-way switch can then be lifted away. (Note- the plug is very stiff to pull apart and you may need to resort to brutality and violence.)
9. There are several wires that come out of the vehicle bulkhead and go into the connector. Snip the two brown ones (plain brown and brown with stripe) from the connector and safely connect them together. This needs doing well as these are quite hefty cables and are permanently live. (I soldered them and sealed with heat shrink).
10. Snip the two green/purple wires and connect together. These wires supply the brake lights.

11. That’s it.



Summary:
1. Fit civilian switch and connect to existing connector behind speedo panel.
2. Remove military switch and undo connector.
3. Join the two brown wires together and insulate connection.
4. Join the two green/purple wires together and insulate connection.

You’ll find a multitude of other wires lurking about behind the 6-way switch. None are connected to anything but some are live. These are the bits of the civilian wiring not used on the military truck. They are there for the items usually mounted on the front of the dashboard shelf. Bear in mind that brown wires are permanently live and white wires are live when the vehicle is running. Black is earth. It’s worth putting some cable ties and insulation tape around the wires and connectors to stop them flapping around. You’ll also see the wires that go through to the map reading light.

Stimmt nix geht über verbastelte Elektrik (aber das ist doch original wenn ich in den Kasten vom Lichtschalter schau grrrr)
Nö wenn ich da was bau kommt da ein solider Schalter rein der das ohne Relais kann . Hat auch den Vorteil das dann alles so belegt ist das es Diskussionen beim TÜV spart .
Dann natürlich leider nicht mehr original aber was solls .

Prima Anleitung aber bau da bitte keinen Orig. LR Schalter ein du tust dir keinen Gefallen damit , der taugt nix (oder bau auf Relais um)
